Frequently Asked Questions

How is a weighted grade calculated?

A weighted grade multiplies each assignment score by its weight (as a percentage of the total grade), then sums the results. For example, if homework is worth 30% and you scored 90%, and exams are worth 70% and you scored 80%, your weighted grade is (90 x 0.30) + (80 x 0.70) = 83%.

What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?

An unweighted GPA uses a standard 4.0 scale for all classes. A weighted GPA gives extra points for advanced courses — typically +0.5 for Honors and +1.0 for AP/IB classes, allowing GPAs above 4.0 up to a 5.0 scale.

How do I calculate my cumulative GPA?

Multiply each course grade point by its credit hours, sum the results, and divide by total credit hours. Our GPA calculator handles this automatically across multiple semesters.

Can these calculators help me plan for a target GPA?

Yes. The GPA calculator includes a planning mode that tells you what GPA you need in future courses to reach your target cumulative GPA, based on your current credits and GPA.
